Student Testimonials

  • Gyurme Gyamtso (Magnus M.) from Norway

Combining pith instructions in Buddhist ethics and meditation with in-depth study of the major treatises, Thrangu Sekhar Institute is one of its kind. Having been provided with an all-comprehensive education, I feel more prepared to face the challenges that might arise in any set of life.

  • Tashi Özer (Jason F.), from Germany

Studying at Thrangu Sekhar Institute of Meditation has been a truly rewarding experience. The peaceful and supportive environment here offers the perfect space to dive deeply into the study and practice of Buddhism and meditation.

Everyone, from teachers to peers, is incredibly welcoming and kind, creating a strong sense of community. It’s an ideal place for both learning and personal growth.

  • Dechen (Katarzyna S.) from Poland

Before joining the BA program, I tried to study and contemplate Buddhist philosophy at home but I was not able to go much in depth. Having an external structure and support of a study material and a secluded environment have encouraged me to turn inwards in order to see myself in the words I am reading, rather than just memorizing them. I have an experience of working in the education sector in the UK, but I have never come across a study program, that would be designed with pure benevolence in mind, such as that organized by my Lama here – Khenpo Lhabu Drupon Rinpoche, who is a holder of the lineage of past accomplished spiritual masters. The aim of this University is the inner spiritual development for the benefit of all beings, which would be taken up for life, rather than just four years. I feel extremely lucky for being able to take the first step on a path of becoming a better human in order to bring peace and happiness in our perturbed world.

  • Semzang (Elena S.) from Romania

Having previously lived and studied in both Romania and England, I would like to share my true experience for anyone who is curious about the BA Mind Training course, and also some feelings about the environment in which the course takes place, Sekhar Retreat Centre.

First of all, you can expect to feel very welcomed. Here at Sekhar, there are people from across the globe, therefore, there is a lot of diversity, everyone is very friendly and willing to help.

I first came to Sekhar a few years back and did a one week retreat which I believe would be very beneficial for anyone who is interested in practicing meditation and learn the dharma, whether they are a Buddhist or not, whether you are religious or not, anyone can be given the opportunity here.

Nepal as a country, is very diverse and the people are very accommodating and helpful. As I am just entering my second year of study at the University, the time has flown very fast.
We receive dharma teachings everyday and the opportunity to practice following the instructions of Drupon Rinpoche who is a meditation master and guides us every step of the way.

The program is very easy to follow, overall I am very grateful that I have been able to get the opportunity to study here.
I have learned so much, the modules including contemplation on the precious human life and impermanence.
Being able to meditate and spend my time in such a wonderful environment everyday, has definitely made me see an improvement in my wellbeing. There is so much more to learn and which I am really excited to explore!
I would also like to thank the staff from the University for all their help, they are truly amazing and it has never been so easy to take an exam!
To summarise, I am very happy that I have made the decision to come to Nepal and study at the Sekhar university, and I encourage you to apply and become the best version of yourself!

  • Lodro Yeshe (David N.) from England

The work of the Thrangu Sekhar Institute of Meditation is truly ground-breaking, particularly with reference to its systematic integration of contemplative and academic disciplines. Being enrolled on the bachelor’s degree course has enhanced my personal practice and understanding of the topics covered in ways which I previously did not think were possible.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Institute to anyone seriously interested in deepening their appreciation and understanding of Buddhism.
